Using Departments
Assigning Employees to Departments
- Open Employees → Add (new employee) or Edit (existing).
- Find the Department (or Filter by department) dropdown.
- Select the department for that employee, or leave unassigned if applicable.
- Save.
Each employee can have at most one department. You can change it anytime by editing the employee.
Filtering by Department
Employees
- Use the Filter by department control on the Employees page. Choose a department to show only employees in that department, or "All" to show everyone.
Time logs
- Use the department filter on the Time logs page to restrict entries to employees in selected departments.
Shift schedule (print / export)
- When you Print or Export the schedule, you can filter by department: choose "All departments" or select specific ones. The printed or exported schedule includes only employees from the selected departments. The main shift calendar shows all employees but groups them by department; filtering by department applies to print and export.
Department‑Specific Shifts
- The shift calendar groups employees by department (e.g. Kitchen, then Dining). This makes it easier to plan each team.
- When printing or exporting the schedule, use the department filter to produce department‑specific schedules (e.g. one sheet per department) for posting or sharing.
Shifts themselves are not "owned" by a department; they are assigned to employees. Because employees belong to departments, the calendar and reports effectively reflect department‑level views when you filter or group by department.
Department Statistics
- Time logs: When you filter by department, the table and any totals apply only to that department.
- Shift calendar: The calendar shows monthly statistics (e.g. total assignments, hours, cost, overtime) for the visible employees. When you use Print or Export with a department filter, the printed stats apply to the selected departments.
- Dashboard: Widgets such as live attendance or today's schedule can show department (e.g. next to an employee's name) when that data is available.
There is no separate "Department statistics" page; department-specific data comes from filtering and grouping in the existing views (employees, time logs, schedule, dashboard).
